From the precipice, I see the path

I've trodden, painted with dry blood drops

And the sweet smell of tears and sweat

How far I've come, but I do remember

Exactly where the pine greeted me with scorn

The shallow puddles, the sallow haze

Where the rattlesnake rustled through heaps of leaves

Where I crossed rainbows and raging rapids

Only to trek through more and more

Where I paused and wondered

Where I walked and wandered

I am no longer, but I know, and I will remember

Author's Annotations

This poem, like its title suggests, is a poem written through a stream-of-consciousness strategy. It is an introspective poem wherein the narrator looks back at everything he's passed through to reach where he is now. The poem is also a simple vow to his future self that he will never forget the lessons of the past.
